GXO Logistics appoints Mark Suchinski as CFO
Mar 25, 2026 at 3:12 PMThe new rail connections for freight transport between the Italian ports of Genoa and Vado Ligure and the terminals in Verona and Milan have commenced. This initiative is the result of a partnership between FS Logistix and Logtainer, aimed at strengthening the intermodal connection between sea and rail transport.
The agreement was signed by the managing directors of both companies, Sabrina De Filippis and Paolo Montanari. It is intended to optimize the logistical processes between the Ligurian ports and the Italian and European markets. Goods arriving by ship at the ports will be directly loaded onto the trains of Mercitalia Rail for transport to Verona or Milan. From there, the goods can reach their final destinations in Italy and Europe.
Strengthening Intermodal Logistics
The collaboration between the logistics company of the FS Group and the intermodal operator Logtainer goes beyond mere traction and focuses on the effective management of logistical flows. The connection to the hubs in Milan-Segrate and Verona enables access to an intermodal network that links the Ligurian ports with key European terminals and ports. This shared vision aims to establish rail transport as a central axis for maritime transport and to promote integration between ports, inland terminals, and the market. This is expected to contribute to a more efficient and competitive logistics sector.
The new services complement a trade agreement already signed in May 2025 between FS Logistix and Logtainer, which aims to develop maritime intermodal logistics. This agreement envisions the integration of complementary competencies to offer the market solutions for combined transport by rail and road. FS Logistix will focus on the rail dimension, while Logtainer will serve as the central commercial interface.
