Mar 24, 2026 at 11:50 AMMaastricht Aachen Airport has released new data indicating that the airport handles flower cargo up to twice as fast as other European airports. According to information collected in 2025, flowers arriving at the MST airport in Europe reach their destination on average in half the time compared to similar shipments transported through other European airports.
The average processing time for flower cargo at Maastricht Aachen Airport is about 3 hours, while other airports take between 3.5 and 6.5 hours. This efficiency is the result of investments in modern monitoring technologies implemented in 2025 to improve the quality and durability of sensitive cargo.
The collected data is based on approximately 5,000 temperature measurements and shows that MST is among the most efficient airports in Europe for handling perishable and sensitive goods. Dean Boljuncic, head of commercial development at Maastricht Aachen Airport, emphasizes: „Processing time is a critical factor for the quality and durability of flowers. Every minute flowers are exposed to higher temperatures shortens their lifespan.“
Even during peak times, the second-largest cargo airport in the Netherlands achieves stable and short processing times of two to four hours. In comparison, the longest processing times at other European cargo airports range from seven to ten hours. Thanks to the quick handling and strategic location with direct access to the highway, 80% of flower deliveries via MST reach the auction in Aalsmeer on the same day before closing.
This efficiency leads to a shortened logistics chain, reducing waste and improving product quality for the end consumer. Boljuncic adds: „These results show that we are not only fast but, above all, remarkably consistent. With perishable goods like flowers, time is literally money. With these insights across the entire chain, we can reduce waste, enhance quality, and offer our customers a reliable transport network.“
The advanced monitoring allows MST to track conditions in real-time, optimize handling, and supports the airport’s strategy to stand out in the handling of time-sensitive cargo. With sufficient capacity, direct highway access, and minimal waiting times, MST remains an attractive alternative to large cargo hubs and proves to be one of the most reliable gateways in Europe.
