Mar 19, 2026 at 2:13 PMThe technology company Daher has received the prototype of the engine nacelle for the LCA60T. This nacelle was designed and manufactured in less than twelve months. The result showcases Daher’s expertise as well as the successful collaboration with the teams from Flying Whales, a French developer and manufacturer of airships for use in air freight logistics with goods weighing up to 60 tons. The production took place at the Fly’in Technocenter in Tarbes, which specializes in sustainable aviation.
Important Component for Safety and Performance
The engine nacelle plays a central role in the safety, performance, and operational capability of the LCA60T. It ensures the positioning and protection of the power generation system, which consists of a PT6 turbine from Pratt & Whitney Canada, a gearbox from Safran Transmission Systems, and a megawatt generator from Honeywell. Each LCA60T will be equipped with a total of four engine nacelles.
The acceptance of the prototype represents a significant advancement in the integration efforts. As part of the work on turbo generation in Longueuil, Quebec, with partner Pratt & Whitney Canada, assembly of the test configuration can now begin. Additionally, the entire unit will be integrated on the Dyno Whale test bench. This test will be crucial to validate the performance of the systems and ensure their future integration into the airship.
This development not only highlights the progress in the collaboration between Flying Whales and Daher but also opens up opportunities for expanded cooperation in the field of sustainable aviation.
