Supply chains under pressure
Mar 10, 2026 at 12:48 PMThe first Embraer e-freighter E190F has commenced operations and is being utilised by Bridges Air Cargo. The jet recently completed its inaugural commercial flight, which took it from Cologne (Germany) to Larnaca (Cyprus). During this flight, the aircraft transported time-sensitive express materials. Bridges Air Cargo plans to use the E190F for network solutions in the express industry in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, as stated by Embraer.
The requirements of e-commerce
According to the company, the Embraer E190F was developed to meet the demands of e-commerce and trade. These sectors require fast deliveries and decentralised operations, which increases the demand for prompt deliveries to secondary and tertiary markets. The new jet aims to fill a gap in the air freight market and replace older, less efficient models.
The modified e-jets reportedly offer over 40% more volume capacity and have a three times greater range compared to other large cargo turboprops. Additionally, operating costs are said to be up to 30% lower than those of larger versions. The maximum structural payload of the E190F is 13.5 t when the capacity under the floor and in the main deck is combined.
