Manipulated GPS Signals Cause Damage in the Logistics Industry
Jun 6, 2024 at 1:10 PMThe express service trans-o-flex, specialized in pharmaceuticals and other sensitive goods such as cosmetics or electronics, is building a new location in Steinach, Bavaria. Located directly on the A3 between Regensburg and Deggendorf, trans-o-flex celebrated the topping-out ceremony for a new logistics center yesterday.
“With the new transshipment center, we are not only increasing our capacity, but we can also create further synergies between our two networks,” said trans-o-flex CEO Martin Reder at the topping-out ceremony. “So far, there has been one location each for trans-o-flex Express and trans-o-flex ThermoMed in this region. In the future, both networks will operate under one roof.” A completely temperature-controlled transshipment hall will be built on a 33,360 square meter site. The larger area is intended for ambient transshipment at 15 to 25 degrees Celsius, while a smaller area is designated for refrigerated goods, which will be handled and transported by trans-o-flex ThermoMed at 2 to 8 degrees. The commissioning is scheduled for May 2025.
Designed for 4,200 packages per hour
From Steinach, trans-o-flex plans to deliver and pick up goods between Regensburg and Passau, as well as from Landshut to the borders of Austria and the Czech Republic. They will be sorted on an automatic conveyor system designed for up to 4,200 packages per hour. The transshipment hall features 29 loading docks for trucks and 79 docks for loading and unloading vans.
“A significant difference from conventional sorting centers is the sustainability of the facility,” explained Reder. “Solar panels will be installed on the roof, and we will use the electricity produced in the hall itself, operate the heat pump for heating, or supply it to charging stations for our employees’ electric cars.” Connections will be prepared for the future charging of electric trucks and vans. “The sorting center has strong thermal insulation due to its active temperature control, LED lights provide a lot of light with little power, and all rainwater that falls on the roofs and sealed areas of the property will be collected and controlled for infiltration.” Last but not least, noise protection walls will be erected around the property, which will be completely greened. To minimize the use of the energy-intensive air conditioning system in the hall, it will be operated in combination with free cooling. Only when the desired temperature in the hall can no longer be achieved through air circulation via supply air grilles and exhaust fans will the air conditioning system need to be activated. This ensures that the necessary temperature for the safety of the transported sensitive goods is maintained at all times, even with minimized energy use.
Community of Steinach welcomes 100 new jobs
The special sustainability of the logistics center was also highlighted at the topping-out ceremony by Christine Hammerschick, the first mayor of the community of Steinach: “trans-o-flex shows here how the often-criticized transport industry can provide its services in an environmentally friendly manner and thus ensure the supply of our population with important pharmaceuticals in the long term. As mayor, I can only welcome the fact that this is associated with more than 100 jobs in our region.”
