May 5, 2022 at 11:44 AMThe Deutsche Post DHL Group is launching a new offering for business customers called “GoGreen Plus” in its Post & Parcel Germany division, effective immediately, to actively avoid CO2 emissions in parcel shipping within its own network. This goes beyond the previous “GoGreen Service”. Initially, it is a pilot operation for selected business customers.
(Bonn) The selected customers of DHL Parcel will have the opportunity to send their parcels 100 percent climate-neutral by directly saving the CO2 emissions generated during transport through investments in additional reduction measures within the logistics network of Deutsche Post DHL. For this purpose, Deutsche Post DHL is increasingly purchasing sustainable fuels and electric trucks. Emissions are thus reduced exactly to the extent that they are generated for the transport of the customer’s shipment within its own network. GoGreen Plus takes a decisive step further than the GoGreen service offered by Deutsche Post DHL since 2007: Here, CO2 emissions for national and international parcel shipments are offset with emission certificates from global climate projects. Many DHL customers use this service, which is increasingly establishing itself as the standard for sustainable parcel shipping. With GoGreen Plus, the previous “offsetting” through external climate protection measures is now transformed into what is called “insetting”.
High interest from pilot customers
“The high interest of our pilot customers in GoGreen Plus shows us that actual emission reduction in the transport chain of Deutsche Post DHL is an important issue for our customers. We are very pleased to further expand our pioneering role in the industry in the area of sustainability and to make our processes and products even more environmentally friendly,” says Ole Nordhoff, Head of Marketing in the Post & Parcel Germany division of Deutsche Post DHL Group. The goal of the pilot phase is to gain further experience and improve processes. Starting in 2023, the GoGreen Plus offering will also be made available to other interested business customers in the parcel sector and is already planned to be expanded to other products in 2022.
Advancing climate neutrality
Participating business customers in the pilot operation include the electronics company ElectronicPartner, the entertainment company Sky, and the running shoe manufacturer Brooks Sports with the Brooks brand. “We are excited to set a new market standard together with DHL and GoGreen Plus. By effectively avoiding CO2 emissions, we are addressing the source of environmental impact and thus making transport climate-neutral in a more meaningful way,” explains Karl Trautmann, Board Member of ElectronicPartner. Christian Patz, Senior Vice President Customer Operations at Sky Deutschland, says: “At Sky, we have been committed to sustainability for years. Therefore, it is great to now be among the participants of this innovative pilot project and to further advance climate neutrality together with DHL and GoGreen Plus.”
Book together with the parcel
For many years, Deutsche Post DHL has been actively working on sustainable solutions for the transport, sorting, and delivery of letters and parcels. Examples include the increasing electrification of the vehicle fleet, parcel transport on environmentally friendly rail, and the commissioning of climate-neutral operational facilities. Through various measures along the entire logistics chain, the company has reduced its own CO2 emissions per parcel by 25 percent over the past five years. In this context, Deutsche Post DHL also gives its customers the opportunity to offset or reduce their CO2 emissions, for example, with the classic GoGreen service or the new GoGreen Plus service as the next level of climate-neutral shipping.
GoGreen Plus can be booked in the current pilot operation together with the DHL Parcel. There is also a corresponding offering for national advertising and press shipments. A GoGreen Plus product offering for letter shipping is planned for later this year.
