May 5, 2022 at 11:37 AMSustainable and smart solutions for managing the package flood and goods delivery in city centers will be showcased and discussed. The meeting will take place from June 29 to 30 at Motorwerk in Berlin. The expert program and expo are aimed at trade and logistics, urban and neighborhood planners, and anyone looking for new mobility solutions for package and goods deliveries.
(Karlsruhe/Berlin) The delivery of packages in city centers and residential areas is becoming an increasingly significant challenge. The ever-growing online trade and the delivery of goods in both commercial and private sectors on the so-called last mile are causing even more traffic congestion in densely populated areas and city centers, where there is often already limited space on the roads. The demand for additional spaces in the form of warehouses or vacant buildings in cities to temporarily store packages is also rising. And the challenge is continuously growing: The Federal Association of Parcel and Express Logistics (BIEK) speaks in its 2021 study of courier, express, and parcel deliveries of an annual growth of 7% until 2025, which means up to around 6 billion parcel deliveries annually in Germany.
Experts, leading logistics companies, and young innovators in the industry are already intensively searching for economically and ecologically sustainable solutions for how a package reaches the customer and how the handover can be optimized. Questions regarding the execution of a return or the return of packaging are also part of the discussion, along with the purchase itself, and these can only be clarified with the involvement of companies on the last delivery mile. Therefore, eCommerce providers are faced with the question of which partners and solutions they can enable for optimal goods delivery that is both ecologically sustainable and contemporary.
The Market for Cargo Bike Providers is Growing
The provider market for the delivery of packages and goods on the last mile is very dynamic. Many startups with intelligent solutions are emerging precisely where the problems are visible. The market for cargo bike providers alone grew by more than half in 2020. Micro-depots as transshipment points and delivery locations are already in use at many sites.
For the first time, LAST MILE CITY LOGISTICS (LMCL) is bringing together stakeholders from the last delivery mile in Berlin for a large live meeting of the industry. The two-day expert program and expo are aimed at trade and logistics, urban and neighborhood planners, and anyone looking for new mobility solutions for package and goods deliveries, enabling the development and exchange of holistic, cooperative solutions.
Exhibitors Present Their Solutions
In addition to workshops, keynotes, and discussion rounds, an expo with 50 companies – from leading logistics companies to young innovators in the industry – as well as space and time for networking will be offered. The Federal Association of Courier, Express, and Postal Services (BdKEP) will host a specialist conference specifically for KEP companies on the first day of LMCL BERLIN.
Looking Forward to the In-Person Event
Andreas Schumann, President of BdKEP, is looking forward to the meeting: “The in-person event creates trust, which is necessary for joint projects.” Daniel Katzer from the organizer HINTE adds: “The digital community platform of LMCL, available 365 days a year, as well as the previous digital meetings provide a solid and important background with always current market and project information. However, this cannot replace personal contact and exchange. Therefore, we are looking forward to the live meeting of the young industry!”
About LAST MILE CITY LOGISTICS
