(Unterföhring/Bruxelles) After achieving a finalist position at the German Logistics Award 2019, Loxxess AG has won this year’s European Logistics Award from the European Logistics Association (ELA). The focus of Loxxess’s application was the logistics concept “SMILE,” which developed a future-proof solution for successfully addressing the logistical challenges of e-commerce. The award ceremony took place on November 10, 2020, as part of a digital conference.
The logistics and fulfillment service provider Loxxess AG, Unterföhring, has won the European Logistics Award 2020 from the European Logistics Association (ELA). After being a finalist at the German Logistics Award 2019, Loxxess has achieved a significant success on an international level. During the award ceremony on November 10, 2020, in a livestream, Loxxess was able to prevail against five other European finalists and impress the jury.
Logistics Concept SMILE
At the center of Loxxess’s application for the ELA Award was the logistics concept “SMILE – Smart and Innovative: Logistics for E-Commerce,” with which Loxxess developed a future-oriented and avant-garde solution for managing the complexity and growth of logistics for exponentially growing e-commerce projects. The logistics concept was created in 2019 as part of the establishment of the online sales channel for a well-known German drugstore company, for which Loxxess has been active since 2017 at the multi-user campus in Bor near the German-Czech border.
With the integrative interplay of the components of people, artificial intelligence (AI), and automation solutions, “SMILE” represents an innovative approach to the development and implementation of individual solution concepts in contract logistics.
The concept enabled the Loxxess project team to successfully respond to the challenges of dynamic volume growth combined with a particularly complex and heterogeneous range and structure of products.
Flexibility and agility were prioritized alongside optimizing throughput times in solution finding, without compromising the individuality and quality of customer requirements.
Warehouse Optimization Software Heureka Business
In this context, the warehouse optimization software (LOS) from Heureka Business Solutions played a key role. The software, based on real-time data, allows for optimizations based on algorithmic methods. By creating a “digital twin,” incoming orders are assembled into optimal tour formations in picking through simulations. This saves time and routes.
In the areas of warehouse topology and planning, items are arranged using predictive methods to optimize pick density while considering ergonomic aspects.
However, the core of the interplay between LOS and the warehouse management system (WMS) is real-time monitoring and “exception management.” The app developed specifically for this solution allows for counteracting deviations. Thus, traditional “ex-post” control is transformed into real-time control, significantly improving service, quality, and efficiency.
Joy Reigns
“We are particularly pleased to celebrate another important success with SMILE, now also on an international level,” commented Dr. Claus-Peter Amberger, CEO of Loxxess AG. “Online retail has been experiencing a sustained boom for years, which comes with various logistical challenges and requires innovative concepts. With SMILE, we have realized a successful approach that not only addresses the complexity of online retail but also ensures customer and employee satisfaction.”
Christina Thurner, a member of the management board of Loxxess, said: “At Loxxess, the field of innovation has long been one of our main areas of action and is an integral part of our corporate DNA. This renewed high award confirms our strategy to develop new solutions that offer more efficiency and can reflect the rapid volume growth of our e-commerce customers. At the same time, we would like to congratulate all other finalists.”
