Aug 14, 2020 at 7:05 AMThe Swiss measurement device manufacturer Endress+Hauser is building a logistics center in Wörrstadt, Hesse, in collaboration with the logistics service provider Hellmann Worldwide Logistics. This will replace the previous center in Nieder-Olm. The groundbreaking ceremony marked the official start of construction, with completion planned for mid-2021.
(Reinach/BL/CH; Wörrstadt/DE) Endress+Hauser is strengthening its European logistics. The service provider Hellmann Worldwide Logistics will operate a modern and efficient logistics center for the company group in Wörrstadt, near Frankfurt Airport. Completion and commissioning of the hub are planned for mid-2021; the new location will replace the previous logistics center in Nieder-Olm.
Reliable logistics is a crucial link in the chain to fulfill customer orders smoothly and ensure high customer satisfaction. Fast processing times, quick responses, and on-time delivery are just some of the requirements for a modern distribution center. During the Corona pandemic, another aspect has proven to be particularly important: flexibility.
“Our logistics hub in Nieder-Olm was a rock in the surf, reliably supplying customers worldwide with measurement and automation technology despite the pandemic,” states Oliver Blum. As Corporate Director Supply Chain, he is responsible for the entire supply chain within the company group. “The decisive factor was the 100% operational capability of the hub, but especially the flexibility to hold back thousands of measuring devices from delivery to customers who were in lockdown.”
Collaboration Extended
This positive experience was further confirmation of the successful collaboration with the logistics service provider Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, which was recently contractually extended. In addition, they plan to operate a larger logistics center in Wörrstadt, just a few kilometers from the previous location. The new hub at the A63/B420 highway interchange will have over 18,000 square meters of logistics space and will be able to handle eight times the volume of the old facility.
“We are very pleased to have Hellmann as a partner by our side, who can flexibly and reliably support our growth in the future,” emphasizes Oliver Blum. Volker Sauerborn, COO Contract Logistics at Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, says: “We are looking forward to further expanding our good collaboration with Endress+Hauser and taking it to a new level in the new halls. The location in Wörrstadt will enable strategic growth for both partners.”
Hub for Goods Flows
Today, the center in Nieder-Olm, which is certified for air freight security, must handle the delivery of 16 truck shuttles from all Endress+Hauser production sites in Europe. In the logistics center, the different products are bundled into an order and shipped nationally and internationally to end customers.
Hellmann is also responsible for the supply to Endress+Hauser production sites overseas, which includes packing orders for air freight and loading shipping containers. The new logistics center in Wörrstadt will also bundle incoming deliveries from overseas and distribute them to the production plants via existing shuttle connections.
At the new location, the areas will primarily be used for cross-docking products in the future – goods that are usually not stored but immediately transshipped. “We also use this concept in our other Endress+Hauser logistics centers worldwide: in France, India, Italy, and the USA. And we are continuously strengthening our global network: Currently, we are establishing a regional hub in China and India,” adds Oliver Blum.
Joint Groundbreaking in Wörrstadt
The construction work in Wörrstadt is already in full swing. With a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony, the participants have now officially launched the logistics center.
