Strisciuglio becomes CEO of Gruppo FS Italiane

Gianpiero Strisciuglio assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer and General Director of Gruppo FS Italiane on July 13, 2026. Strisciuglio brings extensive experience from various leadership positions in the rail transport sector. He studied Transport Engineering at Politecnico di Bari and completed his Master’s degree at the University of Parthenope in Naples. Since 2001, he has been a member of the National Engineers Association.

In recent years, Strisciuglio has held several key positions. From March 2025 to July 2026, he served as Chief Executive Officer and General Director of Trenitalia. Previously, from May 2023 to March 2025, he led Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, focusing on the implementation of the measures of the PNRR plan for modernizing the rail network. In April 2022, he took over the leadership of Mercitalia Logistics, now known as FS Logistix, and held this position until May 2023.

Strisciuglio has also served in other significant roles within the company. From 2018 to April 2022, he was Director of Strategy, Industrial Planning, Innovation & Sustainability at Mercitalia Logistics. Prior to that, he was responsible for the Long Haul Passenger Transport Division at Trenitalia from 2017 to 2018. From 2014 to 2017, he was Commercial Director and Operations Manager at Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, and from 2013 to 2014, he was responsible for the planning and development of services.

His extensive experience within the FS Group has provided him with broad expertise in strategic rail infrastructure, contributing to the development of one of the largest industrial structures in the country.

Currently, Strisciuglio holds several other positions, including the presidency of AGENS – Agenzia Confederale dei Trasporti e Servizi, a member of Confindustria, as well as the presidency of CIFI – Collegio Ingegneri Ferroviari Italiani and the vice-presidency of Federturismo Confindustria.
