Jul 8, 2026 at 8:01 AMSteelpaint has completed a corrosion protection coating project at a biogas plant in Friesoythe, near Bremen. The German provider in the field of corrosion protection has applied a specialized coating system to a double-girder crane in a compost hall, as it reports.
As part of the project, the 40-ton crane underwent refurbishment. The previous corrosion protection was no longer functional due to typical microorganism-induced corrosion in bioenergy plants. Steelpaint has implemented a new system that meets the specific requirements of the environment.
After shot blasting, a two-layer system was applied, consisting of a „Stelcatec-L-PR primer“ and a „Stelcatec-L-NT topcoat.“ This combination is intended to protect the crane, which is used for the redistribution of biomass such as wood chips and organic waste. According to Steelpaint, the challenges in compost halls are significant, as there are no standardized testing procedures for coating systems in such environments.
