Jan 23, 2026 at 11:00 AMOn January 20, 2026, the season for exporting flowers in celebration of Valentine’s Day began at Mariscal Sucre International Airport in Quito. This phase will last until February 10. According to initial industry estimates, a 6% increase in flower exports compared to the previous year is expected.
In 2025, Ecuador recorded a total export of nearly 29,000 tons of flowers during the most successful season in its history. These were shipped on 534 flights from Mariscal Sucre Airport. For the current season, an increase in flight connections is also anticipated.
Important Trade Routes for Flower Exports
The main destinations for flowers from Ecuador are the major distribution centers in the USA and Europe, particularly Miami and Amsterdam. From these hubs, the flowers are distributed worldwide to various markets.
Cargo operations at Quito Airport show continuous growth, securing the airport’s fifth place in terms of annual cargo volume in Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2025, a total of 407,240 tons of cargo were transported in the categories of export, import, and domestic freight. Looking exclusively at air freight exports, 336,480 tons were exported from Quito, representing an increase of 11.2% compared to 2024.
Ramón Miró, President and CEO of Corporación Quiport, expressed a positive outlook on these developments. „Success in air freight is undoubtedly one of the main indicators we use to assess airport operations, as it allows us to capture the contribution of Quito Airport to an activity that is crucial for the economic development of the city and the country,“ said Miró.
