Investigation into the UPS MD-11 accident continues
Jan 15, 2026 at 1:05 PMWindracers has announced that the latest version of its heavy drone, Windracers ULTRA, can now achieve a range of up to 2,000 km in a single flight. This corresponds to the distance from London to Marrakech. The announcement was made during the Windracers LAUNCH 2026 event in London, where CEO Simon Muderack presented the new capabilities of the drone.
Expanded Applications
The Windracers ULTRA can be configured with a payload of 200 kg and is already being prepared for various missions in the fields of defense, humanitarian aid, research, and civil air freight transport. Stephen Wright, founder and chairman of Windracers, emphasized the increasing demand for the drone and announced that initial missions are set to begin later this month.
The event attracted numerous guests, including members of the British Parliament, government representatives, and professionals from global research and innovation organizations, who welcomed the enhanced capabilities of the Windracers ULTRA.
Technological Advances and Production Capacities
Windracers also showcased technological advances in the field of autonomous aviation, including a demonstration of a fully autonomous flight at Llanbedr Airfield in North Wales. Konstantinos Kontogiannis, head of the engineering department, confirmed that the drone is already capable of transporting over 100 kg over 2,000 km, while the 200 kg payload will be available in the coming months. Joe Roberts, head of manufacturing, explained the plans to scale production capacities to manufacture hundreds of ULTRA drones over the next two years.
The Windracers ULTRA has already established itself as one of the most powerful dual heavy drones and is being deployed in some of the world’s most challenging environments, including Ukraine, Alaska, Central Africa, and the polar regions.
Strategic Importance and Future Developments
Wright pointed out that the combination of heavy payload and the new range of 2,000 km places the Windracers ULTRA in an exclusive group of long-range UAS that set new standards in both civil and military sectors. Simon Muderack added that Windracers‘ focus is on implementing projects efficiently and purposefully to achieve positive outcomes on the ground.
Al Carns, Minister for the Armed Forces, emphasized the importance of operational endurance for missions and praised the British engineering that has gone into the development of the Windracers ULTRA.
The drone is also utilized by research organizations engaged in environmental and climate sciences. Cathy Cahill, a professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, stated that the choice fell on the Windracers ULTRA because it operates reliably in extreme and remote environments.
Windracers continues to set standards in UAS technology and contributes to strengthening civil and military operations while supporting the strategic and technological leadership of the United Kingdom.
