The HAECO Group has announced the appointment of Tom Owen as Group Director Corporate Development. He will assume this position in January 2026. Owen brings 30 years of experience in the aviation industry, including extensive knowledge in sales, revenue management, logistics, and regional leadership, both in Hong Kong and internationally, particularly at Cathay Pacific.
In his new role, Owen will be responsible for the strategic direction of HAECO. This includes overseeing information technology and digital transformation, as well as advancing the company’s sustainability goals. He will also cultivate close relationships with key stakeholders, including joint venture partners and government agencies, to strengthen HAECO’s position as a global provider of MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) services.
Richard Sell, CEO of the HAECO Group, commented on Owen’s appointment: “We are pleased to welcome Tom as a key member of our leadership team at HAECO. His extensive industry background and global perspectives will be invaluable to HAECO as we expand our presence in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and other strategic markets. With his proven leadership experience, Tom is well-equipped to drive the sustainable growth of the HAECO Group.”
Owen began his career in 1995 at the Swire Group and has made a name for himself primarily at Cathay Pacific in various areas such as marketing, sales, and network management, as well as in regional leadership in markets like Korea, Canada, the USA, and South Asia. In 2015, he was appointed Director People, where he led the comprehensive modernization of the HR functions of the Cathay Group. In 2020, he took on the role of Director Cargo, where he led Cathay’s cargo business to record financial and operational results and made significant progress in digital capabilities.
The HAECO Group thanks Summit Chan, who will be stepping down from the position of Group Director Corporate Development in December 2025. Chan played a crucial role in enhancing HAECO’s technological and sustainability capabilities. Under his leadership, initiatives such as drone-assisted inspections and the use of autonomous robots were implemented. He also led the largest solar project at a single site in Hong Kong. Chan also guided HAECO Xiamen to become the first civil maintenance facility in the world to receive LEED Platinum certification. The HAECO Group wishes Chan much success in his future endeavors.
