Feb 12, 2020 at 6:20 AMOn the A 61 motorway in Rhineland-Palatinate, truck drivers can now quickly and online find out how the parking spaces at rest areas are occupied with a new parking guidance system. The new system monitors more than 1,000 parking spaces.
(Koblenz, 07.02.2020) The A 61 is a central transport axis for freight transport. In the section between the state borders of North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg, the actual occupancy of all rest areas for trucks is now recorded in real-time and published digitally. Detectors and laser scanners are used for this purpose.Steffen Bilger, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister for Transport and Digital Infrastructure, and Andy Becht, State Secretary in the Ministry of Economy, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture of Rhineland-Palatinate, officially launched the digital truck parking guidance system today at the traffic control center in Koblenz. The federal government has fully funded the project with 3.6 million euros.Steffen Bilger stated: “We want to manage traffic intelligently. An important goal is therefore the optimal use of truck parking spaces. In particular, our truck drivers ensure that freight transport and logistics are booming in Germany. They cover many kilometers on our motorways every year and need restful breaks. That’s why we are creating modern, digital parking guidance systems to provide them with reliable data in real-time and to use parking space efficiently. This means: We shorten the search for parking spaces – and increase road safety.”Information about the current occupancy rate can be accessed online, for example, via the Mobility Portal Rhineland-Palatinate www.verkehr.rlp.de. www.bmvi.de
