Desde ent\u00e3o, trens e caminh\u00f5es t\u00eam sido processados diariamente na nova instala\u00e7\u00e3o, que oferece uma conex\u00e3o direta entre o hub interior para a ind\u00fastria de manufatura e o porto de Savannah. Segundo Griff Lynch, presidente e CEO da Georgia Ports Authority, o novo local expande o alcance do porto de Savannah at\u00e9 o nordeste da Ge\u00f3rgia. Os fabricantes da regi\u00e3o se beneficiam de uma conex\u00e3o ferrovi\u00e1ria cont\u00ednua, que liga mais de 40 chegadas semanais de navios a mercados globais.<\/p>\n<p>O Gainesville Inland Port oferece aos remetentes uma alternativa a uma viagem de ida e volta de quase 1000 km de caminh\u00e3o, o que deve reduzir o n\u00famero de caminh\u00f5es nas estradas da Ge\u00f3rgia e na \u00e1rea de Atlanta. A GPA espera transferir 26.000 cont\u00eaineres para a ferrovia no primeiro ano de opera\u00e7\u00e3o, o que pode melhorar o fluxo de tr\u00e1fego nas estradas e reduzir as emiss\u00f5es.<\/p>\n<p>Atualmente, cerca de 80% da carga de Savannah \u00e9 transportada por caminh\u00e3o e 20% por trem. A ferrovia se torna especialmente mais econ\u00f4mica a partir de uma dist\u00e2ncia de 400 km, especialmente considerando o aumento dos pre\u00e7os do diesel. O porto se destaca pela alta velocidade e flexibilidade: h\u00e1 40 chegadas semanais de navios, 42 trens de dois andares que conectam os mercados internos e um tempo de perman\u00eancia l\u00edder do setor de 20 horas ou menos para os trens. Os port\u00f5es de caminh\u00f5es processam diariamente entre 14.000 e 16.000 movimenta\u00e7\u00f5es, com tempos de espera para viagens duplas abaixo de 50 minutos e para viagens simples em 30 minutos.<\/p>\n<p>A GPA est\u00e1 colaborando com a Norfolk Southern neste novo servi\u00e7o. Com a capacidade total, o Gainesville Inland Port alcan\u00e7ar\u00e1 uma capacidade anual de 200.000 cont\u00eaineres. Para minimizar os impactos do tr\u00e1fego do novo terminal de carga nas comunidades locais em Gainesville, a GPA investiu 4,8 milh\u00f5es de d\u00f3lares em projetos de estradas no Condado de Hall. Isso inclui a elimina\u00e7\u00e3o de um cruzamento ferrovi\u00e1rio, a desvio da White Sulphur Road e a pavimenta\u00e7\u00e3o da Cagle Road.
