Dit vliegtuig is de eerste van in totaal twaalf toestellen die door Qantas zijn besteld. De vlucht duurde drie uur en 43 minuten en bereikte een hoogte van meer dan 12.500 m. Aan boord bevond zich een gespecialiseerd testteam van Airbus.<\/p>\n<p>De A350-1000ULR is speciaal ontwikkeld voor Qantas Airways om voor het eerst non-stop vluchten tussen Sydney en Londen mogelijk te maken. De afstand bedraagt bijna 18.500 km, waarbij de vliegtijden tot 22 uur kunnen oplopen. Dit wordt bereikt door de integratie van een extra centrale brandstoftank (RCT) in de vliegtuigstructuur, wat de actieradius met 1.000 zeemijlen vergroot. Dit is alleen mogelijk met gelijktijdige verminderingen in de vrachtcapaciteit, die bij de standaardversie A350-1000 44 posities voor LD3-containers (of 14 standaardpallets) omvat.<\/p>\n<h3>Testvluchten en certificering<\/h3>\n<p>Tijdens de eerste vlucht voerde de bemanning algemene prestatiebeoordelingen van het vliegtuig uit en testte de nieuwe brandstofsysteemarchitectuur. Deze vlucht markeert het begin van een twee maanden durende testcampagne voor de certificering van de modificaties. Daarnaast wordt een nieuw koelsysteem voor de boordkeuken gecertificeerd, dat lichtere en effici\u00ebntere koelaggregaten voor zeer lange vluchten omvat. Ook de ventilatie en temperatuurregeling van de cabine worden uitgebreid getest.<\/p>\n<p>Na afloop van de testcampagne zal het vliegtuig MSN 707 worden omgebouwd naar de commerci\u00eble specificaties van Qantas. De tweede A350-1000ULR, die voor Qantas wordt geproduceerd en naar verwachting in april 2027 zal worden geleverd, bevindt zich al in een gevorderd stadium van de eindmontage en zal in de komende dagen uit de spuiterij worden gerold. Daarna volgt de afronding van de premium cabine-indeling met vier klassen en de installatie van de motoren.<\/p>\n<p>De A350-1000ULR is de vierde passagiersvariant van de A350-familie, die al de modellen A350-900, A350-900ULR en A350-1000 omvat. Deze vliegtuigen hebben nieuwe maatstaven gezet in de langeafstandsvlucht, vooral door een significante vermindering van het brandstofverbruik en de koolstofemissies, evenals door een hoog niveau van passagierscomfort.<\/p>\n<p>Daarnaast zal de passagiersvloot binnenkort worden aangevuld met de nieuwe A350F-freighter, die momenteel ook door Airbus wordt ontwikkeld en waarvan de eerste vlucht later dit jaar is gepland.<\/p>\n<p>Tot eind april 2026 had de A350-familie in totaal 1.579 bestellingen ontvangen van 68 klanten, waarbij meer dan 700 vliegtuigen met 41 operators wereldwijd in gebruik zijn, voornamelijk op langeafstandsvluchten.<\/p>\n<p>Qantas heeft 12 A350-1000ULRs besteld in het kader van Project Sunrise, dat tot doel heeft een van de laatste uitdagingen in het non-stop reisverkeer vanuit Australi\u00eb te overwinnen.
