Deze beslissing wordt door de twee bedrijven beschouwd als een belangrijke stap voor de concurrentiekracht van de Amerikaanse spoorwegindustrie. In een verklaring bevestigden de bedrijven hun inzet om nauw samen te werken met de STB en de gevraagde aanvullende informatie over hun gewijzigde aanvraag te verstrekken.<\/p>\n<h3>Eerste uitgebreide analyse van de fusieaanvragen<\/h3>\n<p>De analyse van de fusieaanvraag is volgens de bedrijven de eerste in zijn soort, die is gebaseerd op 100% werkelijke verkeersgegevens van alle zes Noord-Amerikaanse Class-I-spoorwegen. Dit moet een uitgebreide beoordeling van de markt- en operationele impact van de fusie mogelijk maken. Tot de belangrijkste bevindingen van de analyse behoort dat de oprichting van een transcontinentale spoorweg een sterkere alternatieve optie voor het vrachtvervoer zal bieden. Naar schatting zouden jaarlijks ongeveer 2,1 miljoen vrachtwagenladingen van de wegen kunnen worden gehaald. Dit zou de concurrentiekracht van de gehele toeleveringsketen verhogen en zowel de prijzen voor vrachtvervoer per vrachtwagen als per spoor onder druk zetten.<\/p>\n<p>De fusie zou ook de klanten van manifest- en massatransporten ten goede komen door snellere en betrouwbaardere diensten te bieden, wat zou kunnen leiden tot besparingen op opslag- en uitrustingskosten.
