Sindsdien worden dagelijks treinen en vrachtwagens op de nieuwe locatie afgehandeld, die een directe verbinding mogelijk maakt tussen de inland-hub voor de productie-industrie en de haven van Savannah. Volgens Griff Lynch, president en CEO van de Georgia Ports Authority, breidt de nieuwe locatie het bereik van de haven van Savannah diep in het noordoosten van Georgia uit. De fabrikanten in de regio profiteren van een naadloze spoorverbinding die meer dan 40 wekelijkse scheepsaankomsten met wereldmarkten verbindt.<\/p>\n<p>De Gainesville Inland Port biedt verzenders een alternatief voor een bijna 1000 km lange heen- en terugreis met vrachtwagens, wat het aantal vrachtwagens op Georgia&#8217;s wegen en in de regio Atlanta moet verminderen. De GPA verwacht in het eerste jaar van de exploitatie 26.000 containers per spoor te verplaatsen, wat de verkeersstroom op de wegen zou kunnen verbeteren en de emissies zou kunnen verminderen.<\/p>\n<p>Momenteel wordt ongeveer 80% van de lading uit Savannah per vrachtwagen en 20% per spoor vervoerd. Het spoor wordt vooral kosteneffici\u00ebnter bij een afstand van 400 km, vooral gezien de stijgende dieselprijzen. De haven kenmerkt zich door een hoge snelheid en flexibiliteit: er zijn 40 wekelijkse scheepsaankomsten, 42 dubbeldekkertreinen die de inlandmarkten verbinden, en een toonaangevende verblijfsduur van 20 uur of minder voor de treinen. De vrachtwagendeuren verwerken dagelijks tussen de 14.000 en 16.000 bewegingen, waarbij de doorlooptijden voor dubbele ritten onder de 50 minuten en voor enkele ritten bij 30 minuten liggen.<\/p>\n<p>De GPA werkt samen met Norfolk Southern aan de nieuwe service. Bij volledige bezetting zal de Gainesville Inland Port een jaarlijkse capaciteit van 200.000 containers bereiken. Om de verkeersimpact van het nieuwe goederenstation op de lokale gemeenschappen in Gainesville te minimaliseren, heeft de GPA 4,8 miljoen USD in wegprojecten in Hall County ge\u00efnvesteerd. Dit omvat de verwijdering van een spoorwegovergang, de omleiding van de White Sulphur Road en de asfaltering van de Cagle Road. De nieuwe White Sulphur Route ten zuiden van de inlandterminal zorgt voor vrije toegang voor hulpdiensten en voorkomt verkeershindernissen door treinen. De asfaltering van de Cagle Road biedt bovendien een verbeterd alternatief voor de bewoners.
