Volgens gegevens van de Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) steeg het aantal scheepsaankomsten met 9% in vergelijking met het voorgaande jaar, wat wijst op een aanhoudend herstel en toenemende operationele dynamiek. In totaal werden 8.630 schepen geregistreerd, terwijl in het voorgaande jaar 7.912 aankomsten werden genoteerd.<\/p>\n<h3>Groei van vrachtvolumes<\/h3>\n<p>Deze ontwikkeling maakt deel uit van de strategie &#8222;Reinvent for Growth&#8220;, die gericht is op het verhogen van de operationele effici\u00ebntie en het verbeteren van de havenprestaties. De TNPA meldde een stijging van het vrachtvolume in haar acht commerci\u00eble zeehavens met 4,2% tot ongeveer 304 miljoen ton. Dit vertegenwoordigt de sterkste groei sinds het boekjaar 2011\/12. Bijzonder opmerkelijk is dat drie van de vijf belangrijkste vrachtcategorie\u00ebn een sterke groei vertoonden, terwijl de segmenten voor stukgoed en vloeibare lading tekenen van een geleidelijk herstel vertonen.<\/p>\n<p>De auto-industrie leidde het herstel met een dubbele groei van 13,3%, waarbij de haven van Durban zijn doorvoercapaciteit overtrof. Ook de containeroverslagen groeiden sterk en stegen met 7,1%, wat de jaarlijkse begrotingsverwachtingen met 3,6% overtrof. Deze stijging werd voornamelijk bevorderd door een stijging van 22% in de volumes van citrusvruchten. De droge bulkoverslagen namen toe met 4,2%, wat voornamelijk te wijten is aan de exportvraag naar chroomerts, magnetiet en mangaan.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle Phillips, CEO van de Transnet Group, verklaarde: &#8222;De algehele sterke groeiprestatie signaleert een verbeterde economische omgeving in het binnenland, inclusief de vooruitgang van de Transnet-herstelinitiatieven en de verbeteringen in de haven- en spoorprocessen. Deze groei in scheepsactiviteit en vrachtvolumes toont aan dat de maatregelen van Transnet meetbare resultaten opleveren.&#8220;<\/p>\n<h3>Infrastructuurprojecten ter ondersteuning van de toekomst<\/h3>\n<p>Transnet is van plan om de infrastructuurprojecten in het hele havensysteem te bevorderen om toekomstige eisen te ondersteunen en de operationele veerkracht te verbeteren. In de haven van Durban zijn uitbreidingsplannen voorzien die gericht zijn op het aanzienlijk verhogen van de containeroverslagcapaciteit.
