De Australische regering onder premier Anthony Albanese heeft vandaag een uitgebreide investeringsinitiatief van 1,75 miljard AUD aangekondigd, dat gericht is op het verbeteren van de productiviteit, veerkracht en betrouwbaarheid van het goederenrailnetwerk van het land. Deze maatregel aanvult een reeds bestaand investeringsprogramma van 1,04 miljard AUD voor de modernisering van het netwerk van de Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC). In totaal bedragen de investeringen in het kader van het netwerkinvesteringsprogramma nu bijna 2,8 miljard AUD, aldus de regering.<\/p>\n

Moderniseringsmaatregelen<\/h3>\n

De geplande werkzaamheden omvatten een reeks moderniseringsmaatregelen: Dit omvat spoorvernieuwingen, de verlenging van inhaalsporen en de verbetering van de signaleringstechniek. Deze maatregelen zijn bedoeld om belangrijke snelheidsbeperkingen te verwijderen, de reistijden te optimaliseren en de ondersteuning voor grotere treinen te verhogen. Bovendien moet de betrouwbaarheid en veiligheid van de operatie door deze investeringen worden bevorderd. Een ander aandachtspunt ligt op de verbetering van de veerkracht van het spoorwegnet in overstromingsgevoelige gebieden, met name langs de oost-westcorridor. Deze corridor heeft de afgelopen jaren door hevige regenval herhaaldelijk wekenlange afsluitingen ondervonden.<\/p>\n
