Dit blijkt uit een rapport dat is besteld door vijf grote rederijen, zoals de haven van Rotterdam bekendmaakte. De bedrijven CMA CGM, Evergreen, Hapag-Lloyd, Maersk en MSC beschouwen OCCS als een veelbelovende oplossing voor het verminderen van CO\u2082-uitstoot in de scheepvaart, vooral in combinatie met koolstofarme en koolstofvrije brandstoffen.<\/p>\n<p>De urgentie voor de ontwikkeling van decarbonisatieoplossingen blijft volgens de haven van Rotterdam bestaan, ook nadat de Internationale Maritieme Organisatie (IMO) de invoering van het doelstellingen systeem voor emissievrije scheepvaart (NZF) heeft uitgesteld. Het rapport van DNV biedt inzichten in de mogelijkheden van CO\u2082-afvang aan boord van schepen en belicht de potentieel van deze technologie. Daarbij benadrukt de haven ook de noodzaak van een duidelijk wettelijk kader om de implementatie en investeringen te bevorderen.<\/p>\n<h3>Ontwikkeling van de CO\u2082-waardeketen<\/h3>\n<p>Het rapport werd ge\u00efnitieerd nadat de havenautoriteit Rotterdam in 2025 meer dan 25 actoren had verenigd om de ontwikkeling van de CO\u2082-afvang- en opslagketen te ondersteunen. Een centraal aspect van het onderzoek is de fysieke waardeketen, die de ontwikkeling van een vloeibare CO\u2082-keten (LCO\u2082) omvat. Hierbij wordt CO\u2082 aan boord van schepen afgevangen, verhit en vervolgens aan schepen in havens overgedragen. Deze schepen transporteren het CO\u2082 naar tijdelijke opslagterminals in Rotterdam en Singapore, voordat het naar de uiteindelijke opslaglocaties wordt geleid.<\/p>\n<p>Een ander aandachtspunt van het rapport ligt op de CO\u2082-reductie en de economische kansen in de downstream sector. Met behulp van het &#8222;broeikasgas-Pathway-model&#8220; van DNV wordt de capaciteit voor het verminderen van emissies en de overslagcapaciteit van de vloot geanalyseerd.
