Het schip, dat als eerste van vijf gecharterde dual-fuel vrachtschepen fungeert, werd onlangs gepresenteerd. Deze initiatief maakt deel uit van Cargills strategie om de koolstofemissies in de bulktransportsector te verminderen, aldus het bedrijf.<\/p>\n<h3>Eerste reis met groene methanol<\/h3>\n<p>&#8222;Brave Pioneer&#8220; is gebouwd door Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. en behoort tot Mitsui &amp; Co. Ltd. Het schip is in staat om zowel met traditionele maritieme brandstoffen als met groene methanol te opereren, een brandstof die wordt beschouwd als een milieuvriendelijker alternatief. Naar schatting kan het gebruik van groene methanol in vergelijking met traditionele brandstof de CO2-emissies met tot wel 70% verminderen, aldus het bedrijf.<\/p>\n<p>Het schip heeft onlangs de Filipijnen verlaten en zal in Singapore met groene methanol worden bijgetankt, voordat het naar West-Australi\u00eb en vervolgens naar Europa verder vaart. Tijdens deze maiden voyage plant Cargill operationele tests om de inzetbaarheid van groene methanol te evalueren. Daarnaast zullen de mogelijkheden voor het volgen en verifi\u00ebren van de milieu-attributen worden onderzocht.
