Wat voor het milieu een ramp zou kunnen zijn, verheugt vooral de Chinese exporteurs, want hierdoor opent zich een nieuwe, snellere zeeweg naar Europa met een tijdsbesparing van tot wel 40%. De eerste vaarten zijn al gestart. Op zaterdag 20 september 2025 vertrekt de MS &#8220;Istanbul Bridge&#8221; van rederij Haijie Shipping Company van China naar Europa.<\/h5>\n<p>(Qingdao\/Hamburg) Een nieuw scheepvaartconcept verbindt Azi\u00eb en Europa via tot nu toe nauwelijks gebruikte zeewegen: in plaats van via traditionele routes wordt steeds vaker de noordelijke zeeweg langs de Arctische kusten gebruikt. Dit belooft niet alleen aanzienlijk kortere looptijden, maar roept ook politieke en ecologische vragen op.<\/p>\n<p>Op 20 september 2025 vertrok het containerschip Istanbul Bridge van de Chinese rederij Haijie Shipping Company vanuit de Chinese haven Qingdao. Doel is de eerste reguliere containerzeevaartroute over de Arctische Oceaan, genaamd &#8220;China-Europe Arctic Express&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>De route verbindt de Chinese havens Qingdao, Shanghai en Ningbo-Zhoushan met de Europese havens Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Hamburg en Gda\u0144sk. Door deze route wordt de vaartijd tussen bepaalde Aziatische en Europese bestemmingen aanzienlijk verkort \u2013 schepen die via de Arctis varen, kunnen tot 40% tijd besparen ten opzichte van de oude zeewegen.<\/p>\n<p>De bevaarbaarheid hangt echter af van de ijsstand; voorlopig zal de route alleen seizoensgebonden worden gebruikt, zolang de Arctische wateren voldoende ijsvrij zijn. Schepen met een hogere ijsclassificatie worden overwogen om de gebruiksperiode te verlengen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-29729 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/transportjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/12\/Hanjin_19.9.25_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2139\" height=\"1663\" \/> De &#8220;Istanbul Bridge&#8221; op 19.9.2025 bij Shanghai op weg naar Qingdao<\/caption>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<p>De voordelen zijn duidelijk: kortere transporttijden verlagen opslag- en bedrijfskosten, en de toeleveringsketens worden effici\u00ebnter \u2013 dit is bijzonder belangrijk voor exportgerichte bedrijven en de wereldwijde goederenstromen.<\/p>\n<h5>Uitdagingen voor het milieu en het ijs<\/h5>\n<p>Maar er zijn ook grote uitdagingen. Deze omvatten de noodzaak van speciale navigatie in ijsgebieden, verhoogde technische eisen, mogelijke milieurisico&#8217;s bij ongevallen in gevoelige gebieden en politieke spanningen over het gebruik en de controle van deze zeewegen.
