Gli aerei saranno consegnati nel 2027 e fanno parte di un progetto che si concentra sulla lotta contro parassiti invasivi che minacciano in particolare gli agrumi lungo il Rio Grande in Texas.<\/p>\n<h3>Contesto: Mosca del nuovo mondo e il metodo dell&#8217;autodissoluzione<\/h3>\n<p>La mosca del nuovo mondo (NWS), scientificamente nota come Cochliomyia hominivorax, \u00e8 un parassita devastante che colpisce principalmente il bestiame. Per prevenire la diffusione della NWS negli Stati Uniti, l&#8217;USDA collabora strettamente con il Corpo degli Ingegneri dell&#8217;Esercito degli Stati Uniti (USACE). Quando i maschi sterili si accoppiano con le femmine selvatiche, queste depongono uova non fecondate che non schiudono. Questo metodo si \u00e8 dimostrato estremamente efficace e rispettoso dell&#8217;ambiente ed \u00e8 riconosciuto a livello mondiale.<\/p>\n<p>Il nuovo impianto in Texas sar\u00e0 l&#8217;unico del suo genere negli Stati Uniti e collaborer\u00e0 con strutture esistenti in Panama e Messico per combattere la NWS. Entro novembre 2027, si prevede che l&#8217;impianto in Texas raggiunga una capacit\u00e0 di produzione di 100 milioni di mosche sterili a settimana, con l&#8217;obiettivo a lungo termine di 300 milioni.<\/p>\n<h3>Espansione della flotta per la lotta contro i parassiti<\/h3>\n<p>Secondo Bob Gibbs, vicepresidente per le vendite di missioni speciali presso Textron Aviation, i nuovi aerei permetteranno all&#8217;Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) di raggiungere aree remote e di svolgere il loro importante compito di protezione dell&#8217;agricoltura.
