Dear readers,

If you want to circulate goods between continents, you usually have two options – sea or air (see page 14). But when it comes to gold and banknotes, medical and pharmaceutical products, and perishable goods, then there’s usually no alternative to airfreight.

You’ll have read in the ITJ Daily recently all about some airlines’ performance in recent weeks, flying fresh flowers between continents on time for St Valentine’s day, especially to North America and Europe. The volume Colombia’s Avianca Cargo carried came to 18,000 t of blooms; Latam Cargo, in turn, handled 25,000 t.

Chile’s Latam Cargo has also set up its ‘1+1: Offset to Conserve’ programme, which helps to preserve strategic ecosystems in South America through joint efforts with customers. The first partner from the flower industry was María Flowers from Miami FL (USA).

More news from Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula can be found in our Special supplement with this issue.

Here’s to a stimulating read!
