Dear readers,
The perception that the world is increasingly disintegrating into ever-more disparate pieces is only half the truth. The opposite impression can be also gained at some international events these days – as was the case at this year’s World Ports Conference, which took place in Abu Dhabi at the beginning of November.
The meeting, hosted by the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), made it clear that today’s questions can frequently only be answered through close cooperation with other players in the supply chains.
Global interest groups or bodies, including the IMO, the World Customs Organization (WCO) or the World Bank, weren’t only at the venue to address the meeting, but also presented a number of concrete projects, sometimes of them jointly developed over many years. Painstaking and detailed work by specialists from various groups of stakeholders can form a good basis for the application of comprehensive solutions – and is so much more than just hoping for the best.
