Dear readers,

I hope you’re also enjoying the short hot summer that’s finally taken hold of our region here too! Perhaps you were, or still are, on holiday with your car or van. Whilst following the news over the last few weeks I came across the remarkable fact that car transporters were in action recently not only to ship vehicles, but also carried scanners (see page 8) or even marine turtles (see page 14).

The airfreight sector has also noticed of late that sea freight operations in the crucial trade lanes linking the Far East and Europe are seeking alternatives to the Middle Eastern bottleneck (see page 9). Thus, in the light of steadily rising global temperatures, many a shipping line executive has been tempted to take a closer look at the Arctic passage – despite all of the misgivings concerning its impact on the environment.

I hope common sense will put an end to any such considerations!

Here’s to your enjoyable read!
