ITJ 19-22/2024

Dear readers,

Slowly but steadily we’re approaching the 85th birthday of the ITJ, which we’ll be happy to celebrate with you in issue 27-30 / 2024, due out on 5 July. In the meantime, I’d like to draw your attention to two other transport-related anniversaries these days.

30 years ago, on 6 May 1994, the tunnel under the English Channel was opened. The EUR 15 billion project represented the culmination of plans to connect the island of Great Britain to the European railway network that were first drawn up as early as the middle of the 18th century.

20 days later – this issue should already be in your hands by then – will mark the 60th anniversary of the inauguration of the Moselle shipping route on 26 May 1964. A series of expansion measures and 28 locks made no less than 394 km of the 544 km long river through France, Luxembourg and Germany navigable.

Enjoy your read!
