19-20/2021 Like a phenix from the ashes

We all long for a return to personal meetings. The signs all seem to be pointing towards the chance that we’ll be able to catch up again on this front in the course of 2021. For now we have to continue to depend on other forms of communication.

Munich’s ‘Transport Logistic’ trade fair is the international yardstick for our industry. This year it too is being staged as a completely digital event. Organiser Messe München’s official virtual conference programme is set to take centre stage from 4–6 May 2021 – with the ITJ also on the scene and available. This issue is also available amongst the trade fair’s media partners.

We landed a bit of a coup with our international presence recently, when an ITJ associate from Moscow took part in the TransRussia 2021 trade fair. This ensured that the ITJ was the only international trade publication, as far as we know, that was physically available for attendees to help themselves to (in contrast to online publications) at the trade fair that took place in Moscow’s Crocus Expo. We were very pleased with strong on-site demand for our Russian edition.

There’s more good news from the industry. The booming maritime shipping sector hasn’t only pushed up volumes, sales and profits, but is simultaneously also driving up prices for ships and boxes – to partially dizzying heights. Global investment in logistics properties and in logistics takeovers also shows that players are preparing for a potential upswing. It remains to be seen whether freight railways will get back on track for success. In our Special airfreight supplement Andreas Haug describes how the sector, which has been buffeted by heavy winds over the past 14 months, has become very creative and is beginning to rise like a phoenix from the ashes.

Don’t miss out – and enjoy the spring! Cordially yours,
