ZIM still not out of the red
The Haifa (Israel)-based carrier Zim witnessed a classic result on two fronts in 2018: while revenues surged by 9.1% to USD 3.3 billion (2017: almost USD 3 billion) and volumes shot up by 10.8% to 2.9 million teu (2017: 2.6 million teu), ebitda and the net result declined.
Adjusted ebitda amounted to USD 145.3 million, almost 50% less than the USD 270.1 million in 2017. Moreover, ebit went into the red at minus USD 28.6 million (2017: + USD 135.1 million), and the adjusted net loss amounted to USD 44.6 million, down from the adjusted net profit of USD 50 million in 2017.
Zim continues to rely on its strategic operational cooperation with the 2M Alliance. In January 2019, the partners concluded a strategic cooperation agreement in two additional trades – namely Asia - East Mediterranean and Asia - American Pacific Northwest. (kd)
