Zero-emission multimodal transport

South Tyrolean transport and logistics company Gruber Logistics was the first company in Europe to carry out a completely carbon dioxide-free multimodal transport.

A load of 24 t was transported from the Verona area to the northwest of Germany. The first leg in Italy was covered with a so-called BIOlng vehicle, i.e. powered by liquid methane obtained from biomass from agricultural production waste, a technology that reduces CO2 emissions by up to 95%.

After the first stage, the trailer was loaded onto the railways at Interporto di Verona. On the electrified intermodal section, the CO2 saving is calculated to be about -60%.

The last section, from the Interport in Cologne (Germany) to the unloading point, was handled by a biodiesel vehicle with a CO2 saving of 55%. The transport was handled completely smoothly, according to Gruber. (ben)
