Zambia Lobito rail project goes ahead
Once completed, a new rail corridor in southern Africa will provide an alternative route to international export markets and will offer the shortest route for export and imports, linking key mining regions, agricultural clusters and businesses in Zambia and Congo to the port of Lobito (Angola).
To pave the way to complete the development of the corridor, the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) recently signed concession agreements with the governments of Angola and Zambia for the financing, construction, ownership and operation of the Zambia Lobito railway.
The project involves the construction of 800 km greenfield rail line connecting the Benguela line in Luacano (Angola) to a Zambia Railways line in Chingola (Zambia). (ben)
