Yilport adds Croatian port to portfolio
Yilport Holding took over operations at Šibenik port, which lies 350 km from Croatia's capital Zagreb, one month ago, bringing its portfolio up to 24 terminals in twelve countries.
The takeover is part of the acquisition of Petrokemija, the largest fertiliser plant in Croatia. The port used to serve as the country's main fertiliser handling port, but also handled wood products and aluminium.
The Turkish group plans to invest EUR 50 million to turn the port into a multi-purpose terminal. In a first phase, the upgrades will involve restoring the quality of existing operations, installing one more mobile harbour crane and increasing storage capacity.
The terminal will also be dredged to allow access for larger vessels up to Panamax size. The second phase will include investments for ro-ro and liquid cargo services. (lh)
