YEG completes cargo and apron expansion
Construction on the new 47,000 sqm cargo apron expansion at Edmonton International Airport (YEG) finished at the end of September 2022.
The expanded cargo area is equivalent to five-and-a-half CFL football fields and can hold six more widebody aircraft, such as four 747s or six 767s. It was constructed using sustainable concrete with Carbon Cure technology in the production process.
This technology injects a precise dosage of captured carbon dioxide into the concrete during the mixing process. When the carbon dioxide reacts with the cement, it mineralises and becomes permanently stored in the concrete. Essentially, it converts carbon dioxide into stone.
Next on the list is the installation of a new hydrant fuelling system that will tie into Shell Aviation’s two new, two-million litre fuel tanks. (cj)
