World’s first rotor sails on capesize vessel
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and Vale have retrofitted the world's first capesize bulk carrier, ‘Camellia Dream’, with two Norsepower rotor sails.
This innovative step is part of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with the vessel expected to achieve a 6-10% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions on routes between Brazil and the Far East. The retrofit aligns with MOL's environmental goals and Vale's ecoshipping programme, which focuses on leveraging technology to support maritime decarbonisation and enhance energy efficiency. (pb)
