World's first LNG-fuelled large coal carrier comes on stream
Kyushu Electric Power has concluded long-term transport agreements to deploy the world's first LNG-fuelled large coal carriers with Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL).
The vessels are expected to become the world's first LNG-fuelled large coal carriers, operated by NYK and MOL, to import coal to Kyuden's coal-fired power plants. The three companies contribute to the realisation of a low carbon society by implementing LNG as an eco-friendly fuel.
The use of LNG fuel is expected to virtually eliminate sulphur oxide emissions and reduce approximately 80% of nitrogen oxide emissions, as well as 30% of carbon dioxide emissions compared to traditional marine fuels. (ben)
