World's biggest cargo airport waves good-bye to growth
Airport Authority Hong Kong has reported that cargo throughput at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) dropped by 8.1% year-on-year to 394,000 t in April 2019.
Cargo traffic remained weak due to uncertain global economic conditions. The decrease in cargo throughput in April was mainly due to 11% and 10% declines in imports and transhipments, respectively. Amongst key trading regions, Southeast Asia and Europe saw the most significant decreases.
Over the first four months of the year, HKIA's cargo throughput amounted to 1.5 million t, a decline of 6.1% compared to 4M/2018. On a 12-month rolling basis, cargo throughput came to 5 million t, a decrease of 1.7% compared to the same period last year. (ah)
