Wind propulsion for seven MOL vessels
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and its subsidiary, MOL Drybulk, will mount wind propulsion systems on seven new bulk carriers and multi-purpose vessels to enhance their environmental performance. This includes the wind challenger system, which can save up to 17% of daily fuel consumption, as recently demonstrated on the vessel “Shofu Maru”.
The initiative is part of MOL's plan to have 25 wind challenger-equipped vessels by 2030, contributing to its goal of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The company also plans to install Ventfoils, another wind-assisted propulsion technology, on one of the new multipurpose vessels. These efforts align with MOL’s broader environmental strategy, which includes a combination of clear fuels and energy-saving technologies. (pb)
