Watco to start Texan port’s rail service

The US port of Corpus Christi and Watco have signed a ten-year contract for Watco to become the operator of the short-line railroad serving the port of Corpus Christi. Watco’s newly-formed entity, Texas Coastal Bend Railroad (TCBR), will provide rail services on the 100 km line.

The port railroad system has connectivity to the Class I railroads of BNSF, KCS and UP. The TCBR is expected to begin operations in August this year. The port recently invested in its railway infrastructure, including infrastructure expansion near its bulk materials terminal worth USD 12 million.

The port of Corpus Christi’s rail system moves a large range of commodities, including wind turbine components, agricultural goods, refined fuels and military cargo. (ben)
