VPI drives ahead with DAC
Digital automatic coupling (DAC) and the digital exchange of data between wagon holders and workshops were the main topics at the recent symposium of the German association of freight wagon holders (VPI).
In many issues, the industry has made better progress than was expected a year ago, said VPI chairman Malte Lawrenz.
For example, the first DAC4EU demonstrator train is already up and running to select a uniform DAC design for rollout across Europe. The various committees involved in the European DAC delivery programmes have also started their work.
"Now we must work on developing a uniform solution for Europe as quickly as possible," the freight wagon holders said. With the support of funding programmes, it is planned to equip trains across Europe with the new technology by 2030. (ben)
