Vital supplies: 75th anniversary of the airlift
In humanitarian crises, a rapid response is essential. This is why relief supplies are primarily transported by air to conflict and disaster areas. 2023 marked the 75th anniversary of the "airlift", which is closely linked to Berlin's history. It was one of the largest air supply operations in history and a mammoth logistical task.
John Provan, historian and deputy chairman of the Luftbrücke Frankfurt - Berlin 1948-49 association, recalled the events of that time in a recent presentation at the Aircargo Club Deutschland and explained why air freight is more important than ever, even after 75 years.
The association Luftbrücke Frankfurt - Berlin 1948-49 is committed to keeping the memory of the airlift alive. This includes organising official commemorative events. (cj)
