VIP visit to Stuttgart
Three machining centres of the machine manufacturer Hermle, which is based in Swabia (Germany), were recently transported by an AN-124 from Stuttgart Airport to the USA. Each of the machines weighed about 14 t and measured 3.50 m in width x 3.50 in height x 4.50 in depth. With handling systems weighing 8 t and accessories for each machine the cargo totalled 80 t.
Specialist logistics services provider Allgaier from Neu-Ulm lifted the machines onto six trucks before transporting them the airport and loading them onto the aircraft. After fuel stops in Keflavik (Iceland) and Montreal (Canada), the precious cargo reached its destination safely.
Thanks to the fast flight, the three machines will begin to produce the first parts for their end customer in November this year. (ah)
