"Ventofoil" to accelerate green transformation
Econowind has created "Ventofoil", a flexible, vertical wing that converts wind into an extra propulsion for vessels, cutting CO2 consumption. With this invention, the Dutch company aims to help companies achieve the goals set by the IMO (International Maritime Organization) to regulate CO2 emissions and reduce their carbon footprint by 40% by 2030.
The first user of the new equipment, Van Dam Shipping, has already saved up to 15% on its fuel consumption on an annual basis. The use of wind power, an inexhaustible and free source of energy, is expected to accelerate green transformation.
According to Frank Nieuwenhuis of Econowind, the company is "continuing to develop as scale-up and advanced discussions are ongoing with several investors," including Van Dam Shipping, Boomsma Shipping and Vertom Group. (lh)
