Vegetable oils for diesel locomotives
Customers can now refuel all their Northrail diesel locomotives with hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO). It can be used at 100% or mixed in any ratio as a direct eco-friendly replacement for diesel fuel and reduces the emission of soot particles by up to 60%.
Networks of HVO refuelling stations are already in place in Germany and the UK. The German rail vehicle rental company approved the use of HVO in a large part of its diesel fleet in April 2023, and recently released it for Vectron Dual Mode locomotives as well. (ben)
