VCT upgrades cargo handling with new MHCs
Visayas Container Terminal (VCT), a unit of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) in Iloilo, Philippines, has launched two new mobile harbour cranes, the first in Panay Island, to boost port efficiency and capacity. Manufactured by Konecranes, each crane can lift 100 t with a reach of 46 m, enhancing VCT's ability to handle diverse cargo types.
This upgrade is part of ICTSI's broader modernisation plan for VCT, which includes new equipment, expanded bulk operations, and additional facilities for refrigerated cargo. The improvements are expected to shorten vessel turnaround times and support Iloilo's economic growth by opening local businesses to larger markets. VCT has also invested in training its personnel for optimal use of the new technology.
ICTSI’s commitment to Iloilo involves local hiring and community support through the ICTSI Foundation, emphasising sustainable growth and regional development. VCT has a 25-year concession to operate the Iloilo port, aiming to transform it into a modern trade hub for the Central Philippines. (pb)
