VCS: more eco-friendly vehicles needed
In its new list of eco-friendly delivery vehicles, the Swiss transport interest group VCS (Verkehrs-Club der Schweiz) has pinpointed vehicles that transport goods and passengers while simultaneously reducing their negative impact on the climate and the environment. However, choice remains limited, and eco-friendly models are not deployed in sufficient numbers.
The VCS called on industry to reduce road transport's CO2 emissions. Electric utility vehicles are most eco-friendly, especially if they are powered by green electricity. They are practically CO2 neutral. But battery production is still unsatisfactory and needs improving.
Ten fully-electric light utility vehicles are currently available in the market, and the first plug-in hybrid models have just been introduced, VCS said. The association collected and updated information on delivery vehicles for its list, including environmental assessments. (ben)
