Vahle wins automation contract for Khalifa port

Paul Vahle has secured a major contract to electrify and automate container blocks at the new Khalifa port in Abu Dhabi. The Kamener company will initially equip 16 container blocks with automation systems and install around 22 km of power rails in the first phase of the project, awarded by the CMA CGM Group. This collaboration marks Vahle's first deal with CMA CGM and follows successful undertakings in Wilmington and Baltimore with Konecranes.

Starting in summer 2024, the project will include the installation of Vahle 's U35 power rails and SMGX data communication systems for real-time data transmission, enhancing port safety and automation. Additionally, Vahle will provide telescopic arms for 20 eRTG cranes.

Despite challenges posed by high temperatures, the components will be assembled on-site. This project coincides with the tenth anniversary of Vahle's port division, reflecting the growing demand for port electrification and automation to achieve zero CO2 emissions by 2040. Vahle will showcase its sustainable maritime logistics technologies at TOC Europe in Rotterdam this month. (pb)
