UV ballast treatment on cargo sailing ship

The “Grain de Sail II”, a 52 m cargo sailing ship based in St. Malo, France, is making strides in sustainable shipping with a ballast water treatment system from Bio-UV Group. Transporting French goods to New York and organic products from the Caribbean, this wind-powered vessel, built by Piriou Group, features a UV-based Bio-Sea “L” unit for treating ballast water at rates of 30 cbm/h.

The Bio-Sea systems use mechanical filtration and UV disinfection without chemicals, contributing to cleaner oceans, sustainable maritime practices, and lower carbon emissions. “Grain de Sail II” showcases a modern approach to reducing the shipping industry's carbon footprint while protecting the marine ecosystem.
