US-short line railroad founded
Omnitrax and the Ohio river Ports of Indiana have created a new switching railroad. The Mount Vernon Railroad will be operated by Omnitrax and manage rail operations at the Southwest Indiana port, supplying switching, sorting and various rail-related services for port customers.
The line operates two 2,000-horsepower model GP38-2 locomotives and will coordinate rail connections and assemble outbound trains for interchange with the Evansville Western Railway, which provides direct access to the four Class I railroads BNSF, CSX, Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific. Ports of Indiana selected Omnitrax as operator of the new short line from a group of 19 railroads. (ben)
